Retire at a day's end to the natural rock-pool and sundeck, the Leopard's Lair lounge and bar, a cave-style boma for pre-dinner drinks or the popular lodge library. The seven thatched A-frame cottages, each with en-suite bathroom and private balcony, resonate African creative flair.

Find solitude within an intimate retreat as secluded as the original Kalanga grain bins that nestle amongst the rocks.

" A superbly beautiful site in the Matopos. Friendly efficient staff who cater for your every request. Fabulous sunset on Lightening Rock and bush breakfast never to be forgotten. A pristine collection of rock paintings that are easily accessed on a morning guided walk. Splash in the rock pool to cool off at the end of a warm day. End off a relaxing day around a boma fire into the night. What a great experience!"

Big Cave Lodge Accommodation & Facilities

Set on top of a huge granite ridge (kopje) and accessible only by 4x4, Big Cave Camp is the ideal getaway suitable for all travellers. From families to adventure seekers to honeymooners, Big Cave Camp has it all!

The central living areas in the Camp are set against a backdrop of massive boulders that form part of the design of the structures. The Leopard's Lair includes a teak bar, lounge and communal dining area. The bar and dining area features a huge rock enclosed in the room, with trees growing through the roof creating a natural atmosphere. Dining is a relaxed affair where guests and the Lodge Managers all sit around the dinner table together.

The adjacent library is a cosy retreat for those wishing to spend a quiet moment learning more about the history of the area. It is a quiet area with fireplace and adequate local reading material.

Outside, the natural rock pool and sundeck is a cool contrast to the warm granites that surround the pool. Refuge can also be taken at midday in the nearby pool boma area where ice cold drinks are served. At sundown the cave-style boma is illuminated by lanterns as guests sit around a traditional fire while recounting stories of the days activities. Big Cave Camp also offers a camp site complete with all the necessary facilities in the most spectacular location with sweeping views into the valley below.

Yoga & Wellness
Yoga and meditation on massive, million year old granite rocks in this spiritual heartland is a unique experience.

In the glow of the rising sun we start the day in silence in seated meditation, followed by an asana (physical) practice.
Then, find a sunny spot with a view as you enjoy breakfast in silence.

For the rest of the day choose from a range of activities – guided nature walks, game drives, hikes, tours, guided meditation and talks - or simply do nothing but sit back and relax around the lodge.

Meals are taken in silence and in the evenings we enjoy the yang of the campfire followed by a closing meditation.

This is an opportunity to connect with nature and animals on many levels and to enjoy the peace and tranquility of this beautiful area.

We welcome all those who are curious to learn more about yoga as well as intermediate and advanced practitioners.
